Wilma L. Bruce

October 1, 1928 — January 25, 2019

"I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whosoever lives and believes in Me shall never die." John 11:25-26 Wilma Lorraine (Nelson) Bruce, 90, of Newark Valley, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 25, 2019. Wilma was born on October 1, 1928 to Lawrence and Francis (Naylor) Nelson at Cortland Memorial Hospital. She attended Cortland High School and graduated from Wyckoff Heights Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, NY. Wilma worked at Cortland Memorial Hospital and Riverview Manor Nursing Home as second floor CN where she lovingly cared for her patients and co-workers. She loved her Lord and was a faithful servant and member of the First Baptist Church of Newark Valley. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother. Wilma had a love for people and made friends wherever she went. Wilma was predeceased by her parents, her daughter Jill Hershberger, her sisters Virginia Zeh and Jeanette Miller-Jackson, and her brother Lawrence Nelson. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 68 years, C. Edwin Bruce, Jr.; her children Gregory (Ruthann) Bruce, Susan (Donn) Webber and son-in-law Rick Hershberger; grandchildren Eric Bruce and his children Alec and Joshua, Michael (Danielle) Bruce and their children Madeline and Sophia, Joel (Alissa) Bruce and their children Elaina and Sydney, Todd (Tracy) Hershberger and their children Cassidy, Kelci, and Kaden, Kristin Hershberger Noonan and her children Alexandra, Luke and Audrey, Zachary Hershberger, Kimberly (Sean) Webber ODonnell and their children Kaidence and Ireland, and Bethann (Nathan) Webber Jumper. She is also survived by many special nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to Lourdes Hospice and the amazing caretakers from "Personal Care for Your Loved Ones", Angel, Kayla, Renee, Tiffanie, and Suzanne, who took such wonderful care of Wilma in her last days. Friends and family are invited to a period of visitation at the First Baptist Church of Newark Valley on Saturday, Feb. 2nd from 10-11 am, with a celebration of her life directly following.
