Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints. Ps 116:15Wilma E. Rising 93, of Owego, passed into the arms of her Savior early Sunday morning, October 7, 2012. Wilma is survived by her loving children and their spouses: Herman and Donna Rising, Dawn and William Skip Hughes, Janet and Paul Nelson. Also surviving are her four cherished grandchildren and their spouses: Paul and Traci Rising, Anne and Dan MacDonald, Daniel and Heather Nelson, Joseph and Kelly Nelson, her 11 great grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Minka Rising and several nieces and nephews.Born on Nov. 17, 1918 in Independence, NY, she was the daughter of the late Wallaceand Maude (Rockwell) Briggs. Her brother Wilbur and devoted husband of 53 years, Arthur L. Rising, predeceased her.Wilma was a long time and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Newark Valley where she served as a Sunday school teacher, AWANA leader and as a member of the Missions Committee. For many years she was a secretary for Tioga County Co-Operative Extension in Owego. She was a woman of conviction and strong character. These traits, coupled with her can-do spirit, positive attitude and loving nature, endeared her to all and she will be greatly missed. She was an avid gardener and generously shared the fruits of her labors. A Funeral Service and Celebration of Her Life will be held at 10 am on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Newark Valley. Pastor Michael Spiegel will officiate. Burial will follow in The Broadway Cemetery, Owego. Her family will receive friends on Friday from 5-8 PM at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St. Newark Valley.
