William L. Bailey, Jr., 86, died peacefully on September 18, 2008. Born on March 20, 1922 in Chemung, N.Y., Bill was the son of the late William L. and Florence M. (Travis) Bailey. He was also predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth T. Betty (Hover) Bailey; his brother, Lester; sister Alberta; and son, Dale. Bill is Survived by is son, William (Joann) Bailey; Daughter Trish (James) Palankas; grandchildren, Sharon Tyson, Dale L. Bailey and Melinda; stepchildren, Sharon Pollard, Terry (Heidi) Constabile, Susan (Ken) Reik, Paul Swagler, Pam (Joe) Budney; and their children, Laura (Tom) Panella, Donna Nilon, Terry Constabile, Jr., Tony Fendick, Jacqui Fendick, Tanya (Mike Nash) Budney, Audrey Budney. Also Surviving are his very special friends and caregivers, Robert and Virginia Ackley and Shari McNeil. Buster was raised in a rural area and loved working with horses, a talent he inherited from his father, who was a blacksmith. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Marine Corps, and a former employee of the Village of Owego. He loved puttering in his workshop and was able to repair any type of lawn mower. Many local people sought his advice and help. Buster was a regular at Rosies Restaurant in Newark Valley, where he shared many laughs and stories with his friends. He was loved by the community and will be greatly missed. A funeral service and celebration of Busters life will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, September 23, with Rev. Nancy Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley, with full Military Honors accorded. A period of visitation will precede the service from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at the MacPherson funeral Home.
