William E. Porter

William E Porter, 75 of Maine, NY and formerly of Newark Valley, passed away at his home on July 30, 2017 from ALS. Bill is survived by his wife, Linda, sons Russell (Johnnie) and Danny, his grandson Brett and his sister Charolette (Charles) Wilson. Born in Sumner, MI, Bill was the son of J. William and Virginia M. (Hayes) Porter. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Sharon Condon. After graduation from Alma High School in Michigan, he enlisted in the US Air Force and served 4 years. Following his service he began his career with IBM in California, Utah then Owego. He retired from IBM/Lockheed Martin in 1996. Bill loved to learn. His interests were diversified and he was adept at carpentry, plumbing, electrical work and all aspects of home building and restoration. He especially loved the outdoors and spending time on his tractor. A special note of thanks to Dr. Skiff and the staff at No. Tioga Health Care for their guidance and assistance during Bills illness. Bills family will receive friends at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley on Wednesday, Aug 2 from 5-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Thursday at Most Holy Rosary Church, Rt. 26, Maine followed by burial in Maine Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded.
