To watch livestream: Click Here William "Bill" Carrington Dunn Jr.a teller of jokes, a connoisseur of languages, a grower of flowers, a lover of nature, a singer of songs, a passionate learner, a weaver of baskets, a writer, a poet, a musician, a historian of the Civil War, a whisperer of dachshunds and friend to all animalspassed on to his next great adventure on Sunday, March 13, 2022; he was 81 years old. After spending his first few years of life in Scranton, PA, Bills family settled in Newark Valley where he formed many life-long friendships with classmates and neighbors. Graduating in 1959, Bill continued his studies at Syracuse University and after receiving his masters degree, became a Professor of French at Blackburn College in Illinois. Bill returned to New York and after working at various police agencies, accepted a position with the Binghamton University Police Department. Throughout his career as a police officer, Bill continued his love of teaching, instructing police officers throughout New York State in Defensive Tactics. Bill finished his teaching career at Broome Community College where he taught Criminal Justice. Bill was awarded the University MedalBinghamton Universitys highest honorupon his retirement in 2010. To know Bill was to love him. Bill is celebrated by his wife of 32 years, Virginia "Ginny" Dunn and his four children Jason (Courtnay) Dunn, Matthew (Rebeccah) Dunn, Debbie (Bryan) ONeil, and Kristin (John) Downey, and his 11 grandchildren Emily, Raley, Abby, John, Joshua, Jackson, Michael, Jenna, Bailey, Evelyn, and Levi. He is also survived by his brother Jay (Linda) Dunn, nieces Katherine (Judson) Ames and Sarah (Brendan) McCann. His faithful friend Chauncey will miss his daily visits with Bill, eagerly awaiting a toss of his beloved ball or the occasional scrap of food. The Dunn Family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Good Shepherd Village-Skilled Nursing Floor for their compassionate care and outpouring of love for Bill during his stay there. The family would also like to thank Lourdes Hospice for their kind support and care. A celebration of Bills life will be held at Good Shepherd Village, 32 Village Dr., Endwell, NY 13760 in the Village Center on Saturday, April 2nd. Calling hours will be held from 1:00-1:45 with the service immediately following. Please note that proof of vaccination is required to attend, and masks must be worn during the service.
