Valeria Woods

Val (Horinka) Woods, of Newark Valley, left this earth on February 10, 2010. She was 90 years old. She is now united with her loving husband of 54 years, Charles who predeceased her in 2000. Val is survived by her children and their spouses, Judi (John) Schmidt, Nancy (Dr. Farouq) Al-Khalidi, Charles (Maef) Woods, Jan (Susie) Woods, her grandchildren, Wade and Tami Spicer, Aneesa Fallon, Janeen, Omar and Ali Al-Khalidi, Kindah Brennan, Nadia Ako-Adjei, Jameela and Laith Al-Khalidi and Jodi Woods. Also surviving are her great grandchildren Karim and Nassar Al-Khalidi, Ciara and Brooke Fallon, Samir Ako-Adjei and several nieces and nephews.Val was born on October 31, 1919 in Gbely, Czechoslovakia a daughter of John and Eva Horinka. She and Chuck were married on Feb. 2, 1946 in Binghamton and established their home in Newark Valley. She was a faithful and life-long member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Newark Valley, a member of the Rosary Society (past president), and Catholic Daughters of America (National Regent). Valeria loved her life, her home and her family. She was an exceptional cook yet seldom used a recipe. Memories of the heavenly aromas arising from her baked goods will always be treasured. Many will also remember receiving fresh vegetables from her garden and the baskets of goodies she lovingly prepared. This kind-hearted lady was loved by all and will be forever missed. We love you Mom.A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated at 11 am on Monday, Feb. 15 at St. John the Evangelist Church with Rev. William A. Moorby, Pastor officiating . Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at a later date and will be announced by MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley.
