Stuart Lynn Yetter, Jr.

Stuart Lynn Yetter, Jr., 68, of Newark Valley, passed away on September 5th at home following a brief illness. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley (Lawton) and Stuart Lynn Yetter, Sr.; brother Scott Yetter; uncles Dale Yetter, Lawrence Yetter, and Eldred Conklin. 

He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Lynn Yetter; Brother Shawn Yetter; Nephews Eric Yetter (Sarah Reid) and Douglas Yetter; grandniece Ruthanne Yetter; uncle Merle (Margaret) Lawton; aunts Sarah Conklin, Janet Yetter; and the mother of his daughter, Cathy Yetter; and several dear cousins and close friends. 

Stu was born at Ideal Hospital in Endicott. His early childhood was spent on Wilson Creek Road and then on the family farm on Route 38, both in Newark Valley. He graduated from Newark Valley High School in 1975 and earned a degree in Automotive Repair at Alfred State College in 1977. His first job after graduating from Alfred State College was as a mechanic and equipment operator for the Town of Newark Valley Highway Department. He opened Stu’s Service in 1979, which he owned and operated as a one-man repair shop until his untimely death. After a short stint as Highway Superintendent in the 1980s, he concentrated on his business. In 1994, he was elected to the Newark Valley Town Board, served for five years as a Town Council Member, the last two years also as Deputy Town Supervisor. In 1999 he was appointed as the Town Supervisor position he has held since. Through his role as supervisor, he has also served as a board member of the Tioga County Property Development Corporation. 

Outside of work Stu could be found at “the diner” having coffee with the guys. Stu enjoyed going to Antique Car & Truck shows and the Gathering of the Orange Allis Chalmers shows.

Relatives and friends are invited to a period of visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig Street, Newark Valley, NY. A service celebrating his life will be held on at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2025, at the funeral home, with Pastor Dan Martin officiating.
