Honorable Stanley W. Mills, 75,of Newark Valley, went to be with his Lord on December 10, 2008. Stanley is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Reiko (Hashikawa) Mills, his son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Theresa Mills, Newark Valley, his daughters and son-in-law, Hazel Messina, Greene, and Julia and Sam Cox, Tenn., his cherished grandchildren, Emily, Bridget, Margo, Lindsay, Shayne, Seth, Jeff, Logan and 12 great grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive including his very special nephew, Dick Ward. Born April 12, 1933 in the Town of Maine, he was a son of the late Clarence Lee and Hazel Bruey Mills. His siblings, Martin and Herman Mills, Mable Wrd, Irene Mather, Sara McFall and Betty Davey also predeceased him. Following graduation from Newark Valley High School in 1951 he enlisted in the US Army. He served in Japan, Korea, Vietnam and the US and was a recipient of many medals including; Korean Service, National Defense Service, United Nations Service, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign and Vietnamese Air Medal and Honor Medal. He also received 2 Bronze Stars. Stan retired as Master Sargent after 20 years of service. Never content to sit still he became an employee of Morse Chain and worked an additional 25 years. In 2000 he was elected Newark Valley Town Justice and was highly regarded and respected in this position. Stan was extremely dedicated to his Lord, his family, his church, and his Country. In every endeavor he strived for excellence and faced each challenge with 100% commitment and enthusiasm. One of his favorite quotes was When its too tough for everyone else its just right for me. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newark Valley, NYS Magistrates Association, a life member of the National Rifle Association and an avid sportsman and reader. A Funeral Service and celebration of Stans life will be held at 11 am on Monday, December, 15th at the First Baptist Church, Whig St. Newark Valley. Pastor Michael Spiegel will officiate. Interment will be in the Nanticoke Valley Cemetery, Union Center. Full Military Honors will be accorded. The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 2-4 PM at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, and on Monday at church one hour prior to the service. Friends who wish may remember the First Baptist Church of Newark Valley in memory of Hon. Stanley W. Mills.
