NEWPORT NEWS - Stanley Michael Bachmurski, U.S. Army Retired, 91, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at Mary Immaculate Hospital.He was born May 5, 1920, in Jeff, Ky., and moved to Newark Valley, N.Y., as a baby. He attended Ketchumville Elementary School and graduated from Newark Valley Central School in 1939. Very shortly after graduation, Stanley joined the U.S. Army. He saw service in World War II and the Korean War. For his service in Korea, he was awarded the Bronze Star. His military career spanned 22 years including assignments in Wisconsin, Washington, Alaska, Utah, Kentucky, Maryland, Germany and Virginia. He retired from the Army at Fort Eustis in 1962. He began his second career as a Civil Service employee where he was an Instructor at the Transportation School, at Fort Eustis, for 21 years, retiring in 1983. He was awarded the Commander's Award for Civilian Service (Civilian Commendation Medal), several Outstanding Performance Awards, and wore the Master Instructor Badge. He was a member of nearly 30 professional and military associations including: 106th Infantry Division (Golden Lions), 76th Infantry Division Association, Korean War Veterans Association, Tidewater, VA Chapter 191 and XVIII Airborne Corps Association. He is survived by his wife, Rose Migliore Bachmurski, of Newport News; his four daughters, Mary Margaret Pressey, Ann Marie Keech, Rosemary Bachmurski and Mary Elizabeth Schell; his six grandchildren, Patrick Higgins, Jason Keech, Sophie Weidner, John Henry Schell III, Jessica Schell and Steven Schell; and four great-grandchildren, Francesca Keech, Gabriel Keech, Sadie Weidner and Stanley Michael Schell. A visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at Weymouth Funeral Home. Burial will be at noon, Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, with full military honors.Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia, 12829 Jefferson Ave., Suite 101, Newport News, VA 23608.Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.
