Stanley A Steinkamp

Stanley A. Steinkamp, 94, formerly of Newark Valley, passed away in Florida on Aug. 2, 2018. Stan was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Alva Steinkamp, his wife of 45 years, Edna Kip Steinkamp and his 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife, Martha, son Eric, daughter Tracey and grandsons Adam and Evan. Following High School graduation, Stan enlisted in what was then called the Air Corp. He served as a bombardier until the end of the war and then became an active member of the Air Force Reserve serving for 30 years, retiring as Lt. Col. Stan graduated from Ithaca College receiving his BA in Physical Education, and Cortland State, receiving his Master in Education. His teaching career at the Jr/Sr High School level spanned 32 years and included schools in Dryden, Newark Valley and Maine-Endwell, where he retired from in 1982. Stan and his family were members of the Newark Valley United Methodist Church and were all active in the choir. He was also a member and Past Master of Speedsville Newark Valley Masonic Lodge #265, and the Owego Elks Lodge. He was an avid golfer and athlete but music was undoubtedly his greatest passion. Accomplished in both the string bass and violin, he often attended and played at various music festivals many times with his daughter Tracey, an accomplished musician in her own right. In Florida Stan was a member of the Melbourne Community Orchestra. A time of celebrating Stans life will be held on Friday, Aug 10, from 10-11 am at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley and will conclude at Hope Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded.
