Sophie M Dalola

Sophie M. Dalola, 101, a long-time resident of Speedsville, (Bekshire, NY), passed away November 6, 2021. Born on October 8, 1920, in Newark Valley, NY, Sophie was the daughter of the late Amos and Katherine (Mead) Lawton. Following graduation from Vestal High School where she was active in the band, Sophie married Robert B. Dalola on August 8, 1938. They shared more than 70 years of marriage, raised 4 children, operated a dairy farm in Speedsville and made many happy memories. Bob passed on Dec. 2, 2008. She was predeceased by her daughters, Patricia (Roland) Baker, Constance (Donald) Liddington and Margaret Amici, daughter-in-law, Coleen Dalola, granddaughter, Marsha Baker, great grandchildren Robert and Laura Liddington and siblings: Edith, Clara and Russell. She is survived by her son Robert Dalola; son-in-law Ronald Amici; grandchildren: Amanda, Allen, Patti, Christine, Denise, Robert, Donald, Carmon, Gina, Ronnie "RJ", Danielle, many great, and great- great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special cousin Gertrude Mead. Over the years, Sophie enjoyed a huge circle of friends in Speedsville and surrounding areas. In addition to providing her family with love and some of the best cooking and baking in the world, Sophie served on the Town of Caroline Board of Elections, the Berkshire Fire Co. Auxiliary, worked in the Berkshire and Newark Valley School Cafeteria, assisted at the Berkshire Library, was gifted with her needle and thread, enjoyed many good books and was one terrific role model not only for her children but her grandchildren as well. Her cookie jar was always filled! Family and friends will gather for a period of visitation at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, on Saturday, November 13th from 1:30 to 2:30 pm. A funeral service will follow there at 2:30 pm. Sophie will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Speedsville Cemetery.
