Sidney W. Gent

Sidney W. Gent, 59, of Newark Valley, NY passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday April 14, 2010 in Zephyrhills, Fl. He was born on June 7, 1950 in Endicott, New York a son of the late Sidney E. Gent and Lois (Bowen) Gent, who survives. Surviving are his mother, Lois (Bowen) Gent, His sister, Marjorie (Allan) Kotmel, Sr., his brother Bill (Jill) Gent, his aunts, Marjorie (Richard) Keith, Betty (Larry) Carmon, his uncles, Gerald (Treva) Bowen, Ronald Bowen, Thomas Bowen, his nephews, Allan (Iris) Kotmel, Jr., David Kotmel, his great niece, Melina Kotmel, his great nephew, Alexander. Several cousins and many friends also survive. He was predeceased by his father, Sidney and his uncles, Robert, Richard and Larry Bowen. Sidney proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired as a systems analyst from IBM after 30 years of service. He was a very active member in the Tioga County Sportsman Association, the NRA, New York State Rifle and Pistol Assoc., American Legion Post 0001, Albany, NY., and Square Deal Sportsmen Inc. of Endicott. Sidney traveled the country for trap and pistol competitions earning numerous trophies. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday April 20 from 6-8pm at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday April 21 at 2 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Michael Spiegel officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded.
