Ruth Vera Gardner

December 20, 1913 — September 30, 2013

On Sept. 30, 2013, R. Vera (Clark) Gardner, 99, of Maine, NY, and her beloved brother, Fred Clark, 94, of Johnson City, having passed from this life within minutes of each other entered into the Gates of Heaven together. Vera and Fred were the remaining two, of the six children born to Judson L. and Emma Marbaker Clark.Vera will be greatly missed by her loving children: Clark Gardner and Midge (Bill) Sherwood; cherished grandchildren: Bruce (Mary) Clark, Lynette (Chuck) Kennedy, Karen (late husband Randy) LaBarbera, Yvonne (Tom) Sisolak, Kellie Campbell, Bobbi Jo (Ted) Latimer, Tammy Sherwood, Rebecca (Gun-so) Gardner-Kawai, Michael (Kim) Gardner and great grandchildren: Alexander, Patrick, Matthew, JoAnn, Paul, Jack, Jacob, Sean, Hana, Anja, Aya, Miko, and 4 great, great grandchildren. Also surviving are her son-in-law, Bruce J. Clark, sister-in-law, Shirley Clark, many nieces, nephews, and her adopted son, George (Rita) McKeon.In addition to her parents, Vera was predeceased by her husband Paul Gardner, daughter, Alberta Clark, siblings: Almeda Martin, Emma White, Ralph, Chester and Fred Clark; grandson Paul Clark, great grandson, Derek Eckert and daughter-in-law, Priscilla (Doris) Gardner.In her early years, Vera was one of the telephone operators for the Town of Maine. She also served as a postal clerk in Maine for almost 25 years; was a long-time devoted member of the Maine Federated Church; the Mothers and Grandmothers Club in Maine and the Maine Senior Citizens. She enjoyed painting, crocheting, sewing, and traveled extensively. She was especially proud of the fact that she was able to ride a camel in Israel at the young age of 85!Her family will receive friends on Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Maine Federated Church from9:30 -10:45 am. A Funeral Service and Celebration of Her Life and that of her brothersFred Clark, will follow at 11 am. Burial will be in the Maine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those wishing may kindly consider directing Memorials to Maine Federated Church, 2615 Main St. or the Nanticoke Valley Historical Society, POB 75, Maine, NY 13802 in loving memory of R.
