Ruth L. Crandall, 92 of Horseheads, died Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Robert Packer Hospital following a brief illness. Until this illness, with the help of her family and wonderful next door neighbor, Tammy Marshall, Ruth had been fortunate to live independently at her own home with her dog, Chad.She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Barbara Crandall, of Elmira Heights and her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Robert Haney of Newark Valley; eight grandchildren and their families; Matthew Haney and his wife Elise of Brooktondale, Susan Haney of Arlington,. VA, Mark Crandall of Elmira Heights, John Haney and his wife Katie of Newark Valley, Andrew Haney of Endicott, Eric Crandall of Elmira, Jenna Crandall of Waverly, Kate Haney Cox and her husband Sam of Vestal, and her two great-grandchildren Ally and Max Haney of Brooktondale. Her Sisters Helen Dutcher of Avon Park, Fl., Jean Buehler of Avon Park, Fl., Alice Venezia of North Carolina, Betty Roberts of Clinton, NY., and Blanche Shores of Towanda, PA. her brothers Elmer Schrader of Avon Park, Fl., and Paul Schrader of Pinellas Park, Fl.,.Ruth was born in Powell, PA on May 29, 1916 to William and Laura Schrader, the seventh child in a family of 17 children. Seven siblings survive her today; She grew up in the northern Pennsylvania area and graduated from Wyalusing High School.Ruth was married to the late Earl S. Crandall. He predeceased her in 1983. The couple lived in the Binghamton and Vestal areas for many years before moving to Horseheads in 1968. She devoted her life to being a homemaker and she was an avid fan of Tiger Woods and the NY Yankees.A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on Friday, May 15, 2009 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 305 Murray Hill Rd., Vestal. Friends are invited to visit with the family and share lunch after the service. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Ruths name to the Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA Animal Shelter, 2435 Rt. 352, Elmira, NY 14903.
