Robert 'Pete' Fechter

Obituary Robert "Pete" Fechter, 94, of Maine, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at St. Peters Hospital in Albany, NY. Beloved Father of Carla Hogan (Bill) and Wayne (Karen) Fechter. Loving Grandfather of Sarah and Christopher (Natalie). Caring Stepfather of Leslie Harmon (Scott Eckhart), Laura (David) Stoots, Margaret (Wes) Holmes, Kathleen (Gilbert "AJ") Emens. Several step grandchildren among them Grace Emens and great grandchildren; a Special friend of Gary "Garfield" and Beverly. He will be truly missed. Pete was predeceased by his parents Carl and Norma Fechter; his companion of many years and mother of his step children: Geraldine Gordon Harmon. Pete was born on June 21, 1927 in Milford, Pennsylvania a son of the late Carl and Norma (Miller) Fechter and step son to Phyllis. At the age of 16, Pete enlisted into the US Army and served his country from 1945 to 1947. Pete enjoyed spending time outdoors, loved taking long drives and spending time in his quarries. Community was important to Pete, he was a dedicated member of the Maine Baptist Church, spent many hours volunteering at Ideal Senior Living and the Atlantic Steamer Fire Department in Oyster Bay. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of calling hours on Saturday, June 11th from 11 to 12 pm at the Maine Baptist Church. A memorial service and celebration of Petes life will follow at 12pm. Pete will be laid to rest in the Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley where full military honors will be accorded.
