Robert Otis Collins, 84 of Newark Valley, (formerly of Syracuse and Vestal) passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his devoted family: his loving wife of 62 years, Ann (Duncan) Collins; his children and their spouses: Charles T. and Robin Collins, Eileen M. and Jack Evans, Scott A. and Wanda Collins (both of whom were his loving caregivers), and Jeffery M. Collins.Also surviving are his sister Donna (Joseph) Schwenderman, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his parents Mearl and Beulah Collins; siblings: Barbara Villeneuve, Diane Giluzzo, and Richard Collins. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving from 1948-1953 on both the USS Storms DD780 and USS Salem CA-139. He disembarked in a total of 37 countries. Robert was a faithful employee of both the NY and Continental Telephone Co. for many years; a member of Ross Corners Fire Dept Company #3 for 9 years, serving at President and 2nd Lieutenant; a Cub Scout Master; active with the Ross Corners PTA, (past president) and a Head Coach for V.C. Redman Little League (Vestal). He also served as a volunteer for the Owego and Candor Food Pantries. He will be greatly missed. His family gratefully acknowledges Lourdes Hospice Care.Friends are invited to a period of visitation at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley on Monday, June 23, from 11am until the time of the service at 1 oclock.
