Robert J. Williams

Robert (Bob) J. Williams, 90, of Newark Valley, was called into the presence of the Lord on Oct. 10, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marjorie Frazer Williams, daughter Rosa (George) Darling, son-in-law Steven (Lynnette) McElwain, 9 grandchildren and their spouses, 33 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren, his sisters Beverly Williams and Dorothy Hopkins, and brother Donald (Myrna) Williams. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Maude Williams, daughter Judy McElwain, sister Doris Banghart, and grandson-in-law Anthony Mapp.Bob was a veteran of WW2 serving in the US Army. Academically, he earned his bachelor's degree from William Penn College and master's and doctoral degrees in theology from Dallas Theological Seminary. For 25 years he was a professor of Greek and New Testament at Baptist Bible College and Seminary (now Clarks Summit University). He has also been a pastor or interim pastor in more than 40 churches. In his spare time he enjoyed painting houses and driving tractor-trailers.Bob's family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church, 40 Whig St., Newark Valley on Monday, Oct. 17, from 11 am to 1 pm, at which time a funeral service will be held, officiated by Pastor Steven McElwain, and followed by Military Honors and burial in Hope Cemetery.MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, is assisting with arrangements.
