Robert J. Shellhammer, 81, of Newark Valley, was united with his Lord and Savior early Sunday morning, January 6, 2013. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Holt Shellhammer, his son and daughter-in-law: Stephen and Dianne Shellhammer and their children Alexandru and Victoria.Also surviving are his sisters Joanne Card and Cora Jean Corky Whitmarsh, brother-in-law, John Speaks and several nieces, nephews and cousins.Bob was born in Shickshinney, PA on Jan. 28, 1931. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph A. and Margaret (Grove) Shellhammer, brother, William, sister, Linda Speaks and brother-in-law, Kenneth Card.He was a graduate of Newark Valley High School, Class of 1949 and a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict. An expert mechanic, he was known as the Corvette Man, at Ken Wilson Chevrolet for more than 35 years. He also taught in the Automotive Industries Class at BOCES for 2 years.Bob was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Newark Valley and the mens Sunday School Class; enjoyed TV Bible study with Les Feldick; telling corny jokes, woodworking and the Newark Valley Senior Citizens.Bobs family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church of Newark Valley on Wednesday from 10-11:30 am. A Funeral Service will follow there at 12 Noon with his Pastor, Michael Spiegel, officiating. Spring Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley. For those wishing, kindly consider directing memorials to the First Baptist Church, 40 Whig St. Newark Valley in memory of Robert J. Shellhammer.
