Robert G. Tingley

April 14, 1941 — February 10, 2021

Robert G. Tingley, 79, of Newark Valley, NY, was reunited with his best friend and love of his life, Fern Tingley, following a brief battle with cancer on February 10, 2021, only four days before their anniversary. Robert was born on April 14, 1941, in Endicott, NY the son of the late Tennyson Tingley and Margaret Cross. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and proudly served his country from 1958 to 1960. On Valentines Day, February 14, 1964, he married Fern Rhodes and together they shared 49 wonderful years before her passing on December 10, 2013. Robert was a hard worker and a skilled craftsman. He owned and operated Tingley Contracting in Newark Valley, NY for many years. Robert also worked for the Owego Foundry, and later Vestal Nursing Home, and was a member of the Carpenters Union. Robert loved people and enjoyed caring for those around him. He used his talents of craftsmanship, among them being painting and, surprisingly, quilting, to bless his family and friends. When Fern was unable to quilt anymore due to failing health, Robert took over and quilted for her- Fern providing him with the colors and designs. Together, they gifted each family member with a quilt. Robert was most notorious, though, for his amazing "Outdoor Breakfasts," an occasion no one ever wanted to miss. Robert is survived by his children: David (Sharon) Bolson, Troy (Lora) Tingley, Jody Tingley (Joe) Scott, and Raechell Tingley (Rob) Smallacombe, step son Tim; sister: Cindy Karger; brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Denny (Donna) Rhodes and Dee Stiles; grandchildren: Dustin Tingley, Jocelyn (Keith) Tingley, Vaughn (Shawna) Tingley, Kayleigh (Tim) Dalius, Karleigh (Zach) Hunt, Megan (Louie) Wach, Monica Olivieri (Mike) Pilotte, Bobbie Olivieri, and Cameron, Mackenzie, and Nathaniel Smallacombe as well as great grandchildren. Robert was predeceased by his loving wife, Fern D. Tingley; his parents Tennyson and Della Tingley, Margaret Harper; and his sisters Cheryl Kozecke, and Helen J. Tingley. Services will not be held at this time. A spring burial will be announced at the convenience of the family. Memories and condolences may be written in Roberts guestbook at macphersonfh.com. .
