On Sunday afternoon, Oct. 30, 2016, a truly great and giving man, Robert F. Malsch, died suddenly at his home in Newark Valley while happily watching 'his Patriots win the game. Joyce, his beloved wife was by his side. In addition to Joyce, the love of his life with whom he shared 59 glorious wedded years, Bob is survived by his children and their spouses, Steve and Kathy Malsch, Sheryl and Chuck Rossi, Michael and Marie Malsch and his adored grandchildren: Christopher and wife Jessica, Jeremy, Emily, Sean, Jeffrey, Sarah and Daniel. Also surviving are his brother William Malsch and wife Karen, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents William and Georgiana Malsch. At an early age he was placed in the care of relatives due to the untimely passing of his mother and raised on his Uncle's farm in Jefferson, NY. It was here he developed his amazing work ethic, learned how to solve problems (sometimes using his famous "Polish- Fix" method because he did have some Polish in his blood) and became determined to succeed. It was also here that he and Joyce married shortly after high school. Bob joined the Navy, served four years on the USS Goodrich and became educated in advanced electronics and RADAR operations. He used these skills to become employed by Phillips Philco and ultimately had a 28 year career span at IBM, Edicott/Glendale. As a technical writer, he composed 'fix-it' manuals for many and various machines. Following retirement, Bob and Joyce became beloved seasonal residents of the Northfield MA community as they worked alongside their son Steve at his greenhouse and florist shop. Bob was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Newark Valley and had an unshakable faith in God. While not a native New Englander, he was an avid fan of the Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots. He loved the outdoors, working in his yard, feeding the birds and every other critter fortunate enough to wander in. He enjoyed golf, skiing, boating, and most of all fishing...a love he was delighted to pass on to his kids and grandkids. Family meant everything to Bob...truly his greatest pride and joy!
