Robert E. Thompson, 61, of Warren Center, PA, passed away at his home on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, following an illness.Robert is survived by his wife, best friend and sweetheart of 20 years, Mary (Turner) Thompson, his siblings, Gertrude Creeley, Marie Woodmansee, Neil (Mary) Thompson, Marge (Jack) Wylie, step-children, Alysia VanZile and Franklin (Diana) Williams, Jr., father-in-law, Laurence Turner, sisters-in-law, Sally (Fred) Williams, Barbara (Joe) Dixon, 9 step grandchildren, many nieces and nephews including Joyce Vandenburg, Ralph Cork and Karen Berlin and his dear friend and neighbor, Peg Taylor, all of whom were very special and also helpful to him. He will also be missed by his 10 year old Papillon, Trixie who was always at his side. Robert was born in Newark Valley on Nov. 14, 1949 a son of the late Neal A. and Laura (Sayman) Thompson. He was also predeceased by his siblings Carmeta Hall, Ralph Vargason, Betty Race and Beverly Cordilione. He was a US Army Vietnam Veteran, and had been an employee of Raymond Corp for 15 years. Bob was an outdoor enthusiast, enjoyed traveling, visiting lighthouses, being a Mr. Fixit for his family and friends and also enjoyed firework displays. His family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-3:45 PM at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley. Full military honors will be accorded at 4 PM followed by a Funeral Service and celebration of his life with Rev. James T. Willard officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Evergreen Cemetery, Berkshire. Remembrances may be shared in his guest book at www.macphersonfh.com.
