Richard W. Engates

Richard W. Engates Sr., 78, of Newark Valley, passed away on December 12, 2023. Born on October 30, 1945, he was a son of the late Warren and Genevieve (Pratt) Engates, his life was marked an unwavering dedication to his country, his work, and his loved ones.

Dick is survived by his beloved wife Pamela (Schaffer) Engates, who he shared 52 years of a loving marriage. He is also survived by his sons: Richard (Renee) Engates Jr. and Alan Engates, his grandchildren: Ashely and Morgan Engates, and numerous friends and extended family.

Early in his life, Richard answered the call to service and proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Owego-Apalachin Central School District, where he had been employed for many years.

Richard had a passion for gardening and bird watching. He especially enjoyed time with his friends and family, especially with his close friends Nelson Gee, John Luddington, and Dale Gurney.
