Richard F. Bierl, 74, a long-time, well known and respected resident of Berkshire, passed away on Oct. 20, 2016. Dick is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 49 years, Susan (Rynkowski) Bierl, daughter Amanda (Ryan) Cronk, son, Andrew (Monica Patel) Bierl; adored grandchildren: Kiana Archer-Cronk, Katalina and Penelope Cronk. Also surviving are his brothers: Thomas (Patricia) Bierl, William (Michele) Bierl; brother-in-law, David (Kathy) Rynkowski; sisters-in-law, Elaine (Bruce) Mosher and Ann McNeil; nieces and nephews: Mark McNeil, Jason McNeil, Bryan Mosher, Charlene Kim, Cynthia Bierl, Jonathan Bierl, Kristen Delisle, Lindsay Herrling, Jennifer Morgan, Derek Mosher, Katherine Harper and families. Dick has made many great friends over the years and has especially treasured his very special friendships with Bonnie and Bob McLaud and their children, Alana, Brenna and families, Kathy and Gary Okrepkie and their children Kenneth & Jason and families, Charlie and Sian Skinner and children: Florence, Maisie, Theodore, and Celine Thiery-Louvradoux and daughters Lea and Jade.He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lucille (Hiller) Bierl and his father & mother-in-law, Edward and Ruth Rynkowski.Dick served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He retired from IBM following 30 years of dedicated service only to resume working another 12 years for the Newark Valley Central School District. He took great pride in all his work possessing a work ethic second to none. As a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Newark Valley, he served on the Parish Council, with the Stephen Ministry, as a lector and as an organizer and worker for the annual chicken barbeque. In his community he served as Berkshire Town Supervisor, as a member of the Berkshire Community Assoc., as a Boy Scout Leader and helped to organize the Northern Tioga Jaycees. He was also a former member and past President of the Newark Valley School Board and a former President of Tioga County REAP. In his leisure time Dick loved to ski, play golf and travel with his family. This great story telling, empathetic, patient, kind and selfless individual, and loving family man, will be very greatly missed. Family and friends will gather at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley to share memories and stories on Monday, Oct. 24th from 4-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church on Tuesday at 11:30 am followed by burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Berkshire where Military Honors will be accorded.
