In Loving Memory of Renee Hanaburgh (Wakeman):
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected, tragic passing of Renee Hanaburgh
(Wakeman) on August 30th, 2023 due to a structure fire.
Renee was born on December 17th, 1966 in Endicott, NY. She was the beloved daughter of Arthur
Wakeman Sr. and Elizabeth Gay Fisher. She graduated in 1985 from Newark Valley High School. After
graduation she spent a year in Hampton Beach, NH with her dear friend Debbie Lang Sice, a memory
and time in her life that she celebrated. In 1987 she married Mark Stagg and soon after entered into
motherhood. A role she had dreamed of since she was a little girl. Together they created four vibrant
children, each one a reflection of her kindness, joyfulness, resilience, and unwavering support. Her
legacy extends further through her four adored grandchildren. Stories of camping with grandma will be
shared for years to come, ensuring even the youngest remember those cherished memories. In 2006
she was united in matrimony with Kenneth Hanaburgh for over 15 years, a partnership marked by a
shared appreciation of the outdoors and the pleasures it brought them on their adventures camping,
boating, fishing, gardening, raising animals, and antique collecting. On most sunny days, Renee could be
found working in her gardens, floating in the pool, or playing with her grandchildren and dogs.
Though we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the spirit and enduring love that defined Renee's life.
She possessed a heart overflowing with compassion for all living things, a smile that could light up even
the darkest of days, and a trademark laugh that would fill an entire room. Renee had a unique ability to
make everyone feel welcomed and loved. Renee was a source of
warmth and comfort for her family and her absence leaves a painful void that will never truly be healed.
May the devastating and sudden loss of Renee once more remind us of the fragility of life, the power of
forgiveness, and the importance of not taking for granted all of life’s moments both big and small. As we
bid our final farewell to Renee, let us remember her for the love she gave us and the joy she brought
into our lives. Her memory will live on in our hearts – a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness –
and inspire us to cherish our loved ones; for they are the true treasures of our existence. May she rest in
eternal peace, knowing that she was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
Renee is survived by her loving mother Elizabeth Gay Fisher (King) and step father Herald Fisher “Bud”,
