Raymond C. Wurtenberg

April 28, 1922 — September 3, 2017

Raymond C. Wurtenberg, 95, well known and respected life-long resident of Newark Valley passed away on Sept. 3, 2017. For the past several years, Ray has resided in Texas with his daughter Jane Wurtenberg. In addition to Jane he is survived by his daughter Mary Lou (Ed) Katchuk, his daughter-in-law, Barbara Wurtenberg Wright and her husband Richard, sister-in-law, Doris Wurtenberg, 11 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and his dear friend Eunice Dalton. Ray was predeceased by: his parents, Clymer and Evelyn (Callear) Wurtenberg; his wife Hilda (Rising) Wurtenberg; brother Robert; sons John R and David Wurtenberg; daughter Marjorie and her husband Paul Purple. Following graduation from Newark Valley High School in 1940, Ray served in the US Marine Corps during WW II then joined his parents in the operation of the family farm. Ray was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newark Valley. For many years he drove school bus; was a member of Speedsville-Newark Valley Masonic Lodge # 265 and Kalurah Shrine where he served in the Legion of Honor. Ray and Hilda enjoyed many winters in Zephyrhills Fl thus enjoying year round golfa sport he never tired of. Family and friends will gather at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley on Friday, Sept. 15 from 11-12:45 at which time a Masonic Service will be conducted, full Military Honors will be accorded followed by a Memorial Service and Celebration of Rays Life.
