Phyllis Punka L. Wahl

Always in our thoughtsforever in our hearts Phyllis Rupert Wahl Punka, 50, was united with her parents, Jerry and Joyce Rupert and her beloved brother Jerry, Jr. aka Toado on Jan 14, 2019. Her passing has left a huge void in the hearts of her surviving family and friends: her husband, George Wahl and daughter Tonee Carman (Cody Grabowski), her sister Phidelia Doda and husband Dean Cornwell and her sister-in-law Shirley Rupert and her special aunt Elizabeth-Auntie Em (Jim) Olmstead . Her treasured grandchildren, Nathaneal, Audreii and Oliver, affectionately called her Giga. Also surviving are her step-daughters: Delacey, Maegan and Kaliann Wahl, nieces: Emily (Justin) Guerrerri, Shelby (CJ) Brink, nephews: Andy (Joana) Cornwell, Brandon (Karissa) Rupert and her very special friend, Cathy Kuntzleman. Punka was a graduate of Newark Valley High School and had formerly been employed as a beautician, a school bus aide and at the School-age childcare program. For the past twenty years she has been a beloved fixture at Hollenbecks Sure-Save Grocery Store in Newark Valley where her unique fun-loving personality, big heartedness, loyalty and smart-alecky comments endeared her to both co-workers and customers. With Punka, there were definitely no frills and no put-onsonly sincere, loving genuineness. Her presence will be greatly missed. A time of gathering to reminisce, laugh, cry and share hugs will be held at the Newark Valley United Church of Christ, 32 So Main St. on Jan. 26, 2019 (Saturday) from 10 am-2 PM followed by a Memorial Service and Celebration of Her life.
