Philip S. Davis

A life well lived is a precious gift, of hope and strength and grace, from someone who has made our world a brighter, better place. Philip S. Davis, 86, a life long dairy farmer from Berkshire, New York passed away peacefully on March 3, 2019 at the home of his daughter May. Philip was born on May 19, 1932 at the Brookside Maternity Home which then became their home farm. He was the son of the late Levi S. and Ruth M. (Steenbergh) Davis. He was a graduate of Newark Valley High School. On December 30, 1953, Philip married Lillian Irene Cleveland and together they shared nearly 60 years of marriage until her passing on October 16, 2013. A devoted and hardworking farmer, Philip worked along side his family and brother Sheldon in the operation of the family farm. In addition he also delivered coal and stones to many local business and family homes. Philip enjoyed touring the countryside on his motorcycle with his wife Lillian. He treasured the farmland, animals and his family. Philip will be greatly missed by his children: Lenard W. Davis, Vickie (Ron) Graham, Raymond B. (Elaine) Davis, and May Geiger (Tim) many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Philip was predeceased by his parents, Levis S. and Ruth M. Davis; his wife Lillian I. Davis; an infant daughter Phylis Davis; sister Marion Hanson and brother L. Sheldon Davis. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation and time of sharing memories on Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 11 to 1 pm at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley, NY A funeral service and celebration of a life well lived for Philip will follow at 1 pm with Pastor Ben Baker, officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Berkshire at a later date.
