Paul Emil Croteau passed away peacefully on September 8, 2021 at the age of 88. Paul was predeceased by his father and mother Lorenzo and Germaine Croteau; his brother Lawrence; and his sisters Pauline VerValin and Jeanette. Paul is survived by a brother, Leo, sister Claire Griffin and brother-in-law Bernard Griffin; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Born in Berlin, N.H., Paul and his immediate family relocated to the Triple Cities when he was 12 years old. Upon earning his high school diploma from St. Patricks Academy of Binghamton he immediately entered the Air Force where he served with the Air Police (AP) while stationed as far away as Washington State. When his four years of service concluded Paul joined his family in Worcester, MA where they operated the Federal Bake Shop together. In the late 1950s the family moved to Vestal where they operated the Cottage Bake Shop for the next 10 years. Paul and the entire family were skilled bakers with a loyal following who enjoyed their treats. When the bakery closed, Paul held a number of jobs including with the Pennsylvania Gas Company. Most recently, Paul lived in Newark Valley. He raised a number of dogs and deeply enjoyed sharing his life with them. Paul will be remembered as a hard worker and an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. And for his holiday tradition of leading the family in singing "Alouette." Paul was a kind soul who enjoyed life in the Southern Tier while never forgetting his New Hampshire roots. He will be missed. Family services will be in New Hampshire. MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley is assisting the family with arrangements. Memories and condolences may be written in his guestbook at macphersonfh.com.
