Neriea Irene (Evelien) Vrooman, of Owego, born April 29, 1921 went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday October 11, 2015 at the age of 94. She was also fondly known as "Aunt Honey" or Cricket, to many.Neriea was the daughter of the late Verna (Rosengrant) and Harry Evelien and sister to Mary Colburn and Harry and Don Evelien who all predeceased her. Also going on before her was her only nephew, Glen Evelien and her loving husband Andy Vrooman.Surviving are her three nieces, Nancy Tompkins, Linda Campbell and Donna Root, as well as their families.Cricket was a lady full of grace and joy and was always a top notch cook and baker. She loved to dance and have a good time at the local senior centers where she volunteered many hours. She and Andy loved to travel with their dear friends, George and Teresa Easler, visiting many places over the years. Her assistance in her journey with alzheimers began at Castle Gardens, then at Riverview Nursing Facility and finally at Absolut in Endicott where she has lived for the past ten years of her life. She met many wonderful people in each place and was given the best of care at all three. We are so thankful for the wonderful caring and patient caregivers she had over the years who always treated her with love and respect. Family and friends will gather at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St. Newark Valley on Thursday from 10-11 am. A Funeral Service and Celebration of Crickets Life will follow there at 11 with Pastor Douglas Brock of Straits Corners Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Tioga Cemetery, Owego. Memories may also be shared in her guest book at macphersonfh.com
