Neeltje Briggs

Neeltje "Nel" (Ooms) Briggs, 85, went to be with her Savior while surrounded by her family on October 8. Nel was born in Capelle aan den IJssel, Netherlands, March 10, 1936, to the late Arend and Marrigje (Markus) Ooms, and came to Upstate NY at the age of fourteen. Nel is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, William (Bill); children Meg (Dave) Radke of Apalachin, Carol (Greg) Losier of Baldwinsville, Alan (Kirsten) Briggs of Owego, Susan Tarbox of Boise, ID, April (Tim) Middaugh of Richford; grandchildren Jonathan (Erica) Radke, Sara (Luke) Ligon, Rachel (Blair) Kopfstein; Bill (Marissa) Losier, Bryan (Tricia) Losier, Kristin Losier, Kate (Jake) Kopylczak, Matthew, Melody, and Heidi Losier; Cody (Melissa), Dylan, and Anna Tarbox; Nathan Middaugh; great-grandchildren Pepper Losier and baby Losier due in March; siblings Adrianus (Dinie) Ooms, Margo (William) Ruther, Annie McHugh; and sister-in-law Catherine Ooms. She was also predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Cor Gaalswyk, brother Antonie Ooms, brother-in-law Edward McHugh, and sister-in-law Nancy Briggs. Nel enjoyed her First Baptist Church of Newark Valley family and was very involved in childrens ministries for over fifty years. She loved spending time with family, and enjoyed gardening, birdwatching, sewing, and crafting. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 40 Whig Street, Newark Valley on Monday, Oct. 11, at 1:00 PM. Social distancing and masks will be required at all times; there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the missions fund at First Baptist Church, Newark Valley.
