Nathan B. Young

Nathan B. Young, 88, went home to be with his Lord on February 7, 2009. Nathan is survived by his children, Robert N. Young, Newark Valley, Bette Jane Daimo, Berkshire, Judith A. Young, Mine Hill, N.J.; his grandchildren David Rubin, Sally Di Irio, Kayo, Seiichi and Kazuki Daimo; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Edison N. Di Irio; his brother, Donald Young; brother-in-law, Dane McGregor; sister-in-law, Patricia Birchall; and several nieces and nephews. Nathan was born on February 26, 1920 in the Town of Union, a son of the late Coburn and Viola (Currier) Young. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Jean; his son, Thomas Young; and his sisters, Hilda Chilton and Ruth McGregor. He was a graduate of Union Endicott High School, class of '38 and a veteran of the US Navy, serving during WWII. He retired from IBM in 1983 following 30 years of service and following retirement, he and Barbara volunteered at Wycliffe Bible Translators in NC for 10 years. Nathan was a member of the Union Center United Methodist Church and attended Newark Valley United Methodist Church. He was a former member of Speedsville-Newark Valley Masonic Lodge, a charter member of the Maine American Legion and a member of VFW in Old Forge, N.Y. A Memorial Service and celebration of Nathan's Life will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the Newark Valley United Methodist Church. Rev. Nancy Adams and Rev. Brown Naik will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Nanticoke Valley Cemetery, Allentown. Expressions of sympathy in Nathan's memory may be directed to the Union Center UMC Building Fund, 128 Maple Dr., Endicott, N.Y. 13760. Caring services are being provided by the Cooley Family of the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley.
