Natalie J Hilliard

Natalie J. Hilliard, 80, of Newark Valley, NY passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2021. Natalie was born on September 17, 1940 in Elmira, NY, a daughter of the late Herbert Sylvester and Josephine Clair. On September 10, 1960, Natalie married her best friend Arthur Hilliard and they spent 56 years together until his passing on September 29, 2016. Natalie is also predeceased by her brother-in-law Richard Smith, and sister-in-law Brenda Hilliard. Natalie is survived by her children: Brian Hilliard, Dana Hilliard, and Karlie (Ryan) Both; her precious grandchildren: Aidan Both, Tiffany Hilliard, and Aaron Hilliard; brother-in-law Edwin Hilliard; sister-in-law Suzanne Hills; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins including a special cousin, George Hoffman. Natalie had a heart for people, especially children, which led her to a degree in early childhood education. She taught at the Newark Valley Central School District for many years where she was able to encourage and support the little ones under her tutelage and in the Owego Baptist Church where she launched the pre-school program. Natalie loved to keep herself busy and enjoyed the company of many friends throughout the years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Onyx Chapter # 196 for over 60 years and was a former member of the United Methodist Women. In later years she served as secretary and treasurer of the NVSR Citizens and the Board of Director of NV Project Neighbor. At home, Natalie was not idle for long. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, reading, word puzzles, computer card games, and ceramics, by which she crafted her own Christmas Village. An activity would not be complete without some good old Elvis tunes playing in the background! Natalie also treasured her trips with Art along the Eastern Seaboard in their RV. Natalie will be remembered for her encouraging words, warm hugs, chocolate chip cookies, and loving care. Family and friends are invited for a period of visitation on Sunday, July 25, from 1 -2 pm at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, NY at which time the Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service. Natalie will be laid to rest in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley, NY.
