Mildred L. Yakey, 92, a longtime resident of Owego, New York, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 28, 2025, following a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Mildred was born on July 23, 1933, in North Tonawanda, New York, and was the daughter of the late Bert and Frances (Stephens) Vosburgh.
Mildred is survived by her loving sons: Richard (Tracy) Yakey, and Stephen Yakey, and will be dearly missed by her sister Marion Corson, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Carl Yakey.
For over 28 years, Mildred dedicated herself to the well-being of the Union Endicott Central Schools, as their school nurse-teacher, where she not only functioned as a Registered Nurse, but also taught health education. Her love for her profession was matched in her love of music, playing the organ for the Flemingville United Methodist Church for many years until her decline in health.
In her spare time, Mildred enjoyed gardening, marveling at the beauty of all types of flowers, crocheting, knitting, and bird watching.
Friends and family are invited to a service celebrating her life on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig Street, Newark Valley, New York at 1:00 p.m. A period of visitation will be held from 12:00 noon, until the time of service. Following the service Mildred will be laid to rest next to her Husband Carl at Hope Cemetery in Newark Valley. Memories and condolences can be shared in her online guestbook at www.macphersonfh.com.
