Mildred Virginia Franks

Mildred Virginia Franks, 95, of Oneonta and formerly of Gardiner and Newark Valley, NY, passed away on Nov. 30, 2016. Millie is survived by her children Karen Oakley,of Owego, and Alan and wife Carol Franks of Oneonta; her grandchildren, Christopher (Tina) Oakley, Randi-Ellyn Oakley, Benjamin Franks and Kyle Franks; great grandchildren, Alexis Karabec, Marissa Oakley and Justin Oakley; her sister Geneva Powers, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Lovett E. and Bertha (Cahoon) Spinney, her loving husband of almost 50 years, Frederick A. Franks and her brother, Eldridge Spinney. Millies hometown was Gloucester, MA. In Gardiner, she was a member of the Gardiner Reformed Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She also lovingly provided day care for many children at her home there for more than 30 years. In Newark Valley, Millie and Fred became very active with Sr. Citizens and the Historical Society giving tours at the Bement- Billings Homestead as well as working in the Depot. She was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Newark Valley. Millie was a delight to know and will surely be missed. Graveside services will be held at 11 am, April 29, 2017 in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley. MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley is assisting with arrangements.
