Mildred A Settle

August 8, 1917 — April 7, 2008

Mildred A. Settle, 90, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2007 following a brief illness. Millie is survived by her daughters, Linda (Lawrence) Coughlin of Cortland, and Debra Smithgall of Newark Valley. Also surviving are her granddaughter, Kara Smithgall, grandson, James Smithgall III and fiance Felicia Graham, great granddaughter, Reonna Smithgall and several nieces and nephews.Millie was born on August 8, 1917 in Cherry Flats, PA a daughter of the late Fred and Nettie (Robbins) Simerson. She was predeceased by her husband, Ray E. Settle in 1982 and her son Lawrence E. Settle in 1992. Millie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newark Valley for many years. She was a former substitute mail carrier in Newark Valley and also enjoyed working at the Endwell Roller Dome. She was a longtime member and Past President of VFW Auxiliary Post 1371, loved ballroom dancing and bowling and could always be found at Karas many sporting events, cheering her on. Millies family will receive friends Thursday from 5-7 PM at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley. A funeral service and celebration of her life will follower there at 7 PM with her Pastor, Rev. Nancy Adams, officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Hope Cemetery.
