Merrill K. Gordinier, 77, of Richford, passed away very suddenly on Jan. 9, 2015.He is survived by his sons: Thomas and Lorie, Kenneth and Janet, and Brian Gordinier; daughters: Nancy Paul, Dawn and Richard Perry and Linda Paul; 18 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; sisters: Leona Pennock and Linda Townsend; former daughter-in-law, Karen Gordinier, sister-in-law, Bernice Gordinier and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Oliver and Ruby Gordinier, his beloved wife, Mary Elva Gordinier sons-in-law: Raymond Paul, Sr., Michael Paul, and siblings, Muriel, Oneita, Thelma, Oliver (Manny), and Llewellyn.Merrill was raised in the Black Lake, NY area and although he was never able to complete high school due to family responsibilities, he was a self-taught man of intelligence and great determination. An ace mechanic and a bona fide Mr. Fix-it, he took great pride in passing his skills on to his children and great grandchildren as well at least half of the population of Richford! This is his legacy.At the young age of 72, he bought his first motorcycle and passed the test to receive a license to drive it. And, he kept up-to-date with technology/computer/facebook/texting. Merrill also enjoyed hunting, fishing, story-telling and reminiscing about the good ole days. Family and friends will gather at the MacPherson Funeral Home in Newark Valley on Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm to share memories and tell stories. A Funeral Service and Celebration of His Life will be held at 11 am on Thursday at the funeral home. Rev. James Sweeney will officiate. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Berkshire.
