Maxine C. Ballard

Maxine C. Ballard, 82, of Newark Valley, passed peacefully from this life on September 27, 2010. Her devoted children, Michael and Debbie were by her side.Maxine was born on Jan. 16, 1928 in Shickshinny, PA, a daughter of Edward and Florence (Westcott) Shellhammer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Hazel Shellhammer, a brother Edward, Jr. and her beloved husband, Ralph E. Ballard (1996). Maxine is survived by her children; Michael Ballard and Debra A. (Donald) Homer and her grandson Jarrod Homer. Also surviving are her brother Leonard (Carol) Shellhammer, sisters, Charlotte (Lawrence) Yetter, Virginia Hyatt, several nieces and nephews. Maxine was a loving and devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She taught her children by her own example and lived the Golden Rule. She was a former member of the Newark Valley Congregational Church and attended Glendale Baptist church. For the past two years, Maxine has resided at Willow Point Nursing Home where she received excellent and loving care for which her family will be forever grateful. Family and friends will be welcomed from 12-2 pm on Thursday at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley and also to the Funeral Service and Celebration of Life which will follow there at 2 PM. Pastor Timothy Dodd of Twin Orchards Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery.
