Max L. Leonard

Max L. Leonard, 92, a well known, loved and respected, lifelong dairy farmer and resident of Berkshire, passed peacefully away at his home on July 26, 2017. Max is survived by his son, William L. Leonard, and daughter, Sue (Dr. Duane) Dunnewold. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Michael and Matthew Leonard, Shari Jackson, Julia Leonard, Katrina Betz, Ryan Dunnewold; his 10 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Lela Clark Leonard, his beloved wife of almost 70 years, Esther, his brother Edgar and his grandson Dan Leonard who was also his farming and maple syrup partner.Max lived his life according to a few simple quotes: "think before you speak", "spend less than what you earn" and "make the most of every situation you are faced with". He cherished his more than century old family farm and had stated many times "I wouldnt move.even for a million bucks." For more than 70 years, he produced some of the best maple syrup and looked forward to selling it and renewing old friendships at farmers markets. Max was a lifetime member of the East Berkshire United Methodist Church and had served on the Berkshire Town Board. He and Esther enjoyed traveling throughout the country and notably were able to visit every state.Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation on Saturday, July 29th from 1-3 at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley. A Funeral Service and Celebration of His Life will immediately follow there. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Berkshire.
