Marylou Wurtenberg Katchuk passed away peacefully in her home, on October 27, 2022 at the age of 78. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and loving husband of 56 years, Edward George Katchuk and her devoted children: Gregory John and his wife Mojgan Haghshenas and Alexis Irene Katchuk; her grandchildren, whom she adored, Alexander Edward Katchuk and Tara Shazad Katchuk, her sister Jane Wurtenberg and ten nieces and nephews. Mary Lou was born on October 23, 1944 a daughter of the late Raymond and Hilda Wurtenberg. She is also predeceased by her brothers John R. Wurtenberg and David R. Wurtenberg, sister and brother-in-law: Marjorie and Paul Purple, and her mother and father-in-law, Edward William and Irene Theresa (Kobylarz) Katchuk. Marylou was a graduate of Newark Valley High School and attended Alfred Technical College. She has been an active member of her community working as first Assistant Librarian and then as Director at the Mary L. Wilcox Memorial Library in Whitney Point. She was also instrumental in helping to form the library automation system listing all library materials in a shared online catalog for the Four County Library System. Following her retirement, she enjoyed golfing as often as she was able to and competing in multiple leagues. She captured almost twenty medals at the Empire State Senior Games. Marylous humor was appreciated by the large circle of family and friends who also enjoyed receiving her cards bringing them laughter and encouragement. More than anything, Marylou loved being a grandmother to Alex and Tara, holding on to every moment she was able to spend with them. Memories of Marylous love and laughter are treasured. She will be greatly missed by all. Her family will receive friends on SUNDAY, Oct. 30 from 2-4 pm at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley. A Funeral Service and Celebration of Her Life will be held there on Monday at 11 am.
