Mary P. Edsall, 96, a long-time resident of Newark Valley, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2023. She was born on February 2, 1927 in Hackensack, New Jersey. Mary’s life was marked by her unwavering faith, her devotion to her family, and her commitment to her community.
Mary was a beloved figure in the Newark Valley Central School District, where she served as a school bus driver for many years. Her warm smile and caring nature made her a favorite among the students she transported, and she was known for going above and beyond to ensure their safety and comfort.
Mary was a faithful member of the Fairfield United Methodist Church, where she found solace, strength, and a sense of community. She was a living embodiment of a quote by Mother Teresa, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”
Mary is survived by her loving family, including her daughter Susan (Walter) Pickering, her sons: Robert (Linda) Olive and Scott (Lauren) Edsall; and her daughter-in-law: Cindy Olive. Beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; a niece, and a nephew also survive. Mary’s family was her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Mary was predeceased by her parents Charles H. and Angeline J. (Soubie) Daehnke; her husbands Harry Olive and Charles “Pete” Edsall, her son William Olive and her brothers and sisters, Rev. Charles Daehnke, Fred Daehnke, Josephine Daehnke, and Gertrude Steinhoeffer.
A period of visitation will be held on Saturday, September 23rd from 10 – 11:45am at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley. A celebration of her life will follow at 12 noon with Rev.
