Mary H. Fulkerson

Mary H. Fulkerson, 87, of Owego, was united in heaven with her Lord and Savior on April 8, 2017. Mary was born in Jos, Nigeria to missionaries in 1929. When her father came down with a serious illness, the family had to leave and go to Liverpool, England for him to recover. Mary has called many places home, including Candor, Sidney Center, Skagway, Douglas and Ketchikan in Alaska, California, Richford, Interlaken, Asheville and finally Owego, NY. Mary graduated from Newark Valley High School. For years she was actively involved in Merriman Ave. Baptist Church, Ashevill, NC. While there, she taught a womens Bible Class and was involved in the Homebound program. Mary always considered herself a happy person with the joy of the Lord indwelling her. She felt blessed being a caregiver to her now deceased daughter and late husband. Mary is survived by her children: Daniel (Susan) Baker, Nathan Baker-Johnson, Linda (James) Lide, Patricia Baker, her sister, Joyce VanVleet, her daughter-in-law, Sharon Baker-Johnson, 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husbands, Belden Baker and Frank Fulkerson, her daughter, Joanna Baker, her grandson and her brother Philip Hull. The family would like to thank the staff of Lourdes Hospice for their exceptional, compassionate care of Mary during her final days. We especially want to thank nurse Peggy for easing Mary into her Heavenly Home and becoming like family to us all in a difficult time. Friends are invited to a period of visitation at the First Baptist Church, Newark Valley on Wed. from 10-11 am. A Memorial Service will follow there at 11 am with Pastor Ben Baker officiating.
