Mark Thomas Yurko

Mark Thomas Yurko, also affectionately known as Q, passed away suddenly on Oct. 27, 2021, from injuries sustained in an accident. Mark was 57 years old. He is survived by his wife, Shannon (Leonard) Yurko, his daughters: Heather Thayne, Arika Yurko and Jason, his son, Zeb Yurko and Madison. Also surviving are his brothers: Timothy Yurko and Christine, Scott Yurko and Billy Yurko. Mark was Papa to his treasured grandchildren: Scott, Terra, Austin, Kyle, Logan, Kodie, Payton and Sophia and to his great granddaughter Karsyn whom he affectionately called Johnny his special uncle, Johnny Barrett, several nieces, nephews, cousins and his good Buddy, Jake the Snake. Mark was born in Endicott a son of the late Michael and Lois (Barrett) Yurko. He was a graduate of Maine-Endwell High School where he participated in many sports and was an employee with Local 112 Plumbers and Pipefitters United Association from where he recently retired. In addition to the many sports he loved, including hunting and racing, Mark belonged to a select group of Newark Valley croquet/darts players. A while ago, Mark discovered on-line auctions and has been a fan (to say the least!) ever since. Along with most likely the only collection of Converse sneakers in Newark Valley, he accumulated yet another collection of treasures. Marks presence will be so greatly missed by all who loved him. He was so happy living in Newark Valley and in addition to his family, he treasured all the many friends he made there. Family and friends will gather at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley on Tuesday, Nov. 2 to share memories and to celebrate a life well lived from 2-5 pm. A service will follow at 5 pm. For those wishing to honor Mark, please know that all donation made in his memory will be directed to his union brother Mike Nalepa to help defray some of his Mikes medical expenses.
