Marie

April 19, 1929 — July 20, 2024

A. Marie Ketchum, 95, a longtime resident of Berkshire, NY, entered into her new life with her Lord & Savior on July 20, 2024. Born on April 19, 1929, she was the cherished daughter of Ray L. and Anna (Kunzle) Bennett. Marie's vibrant life was marked by her devotion to her family, her faith, and her community.

Marie was the beloved wife of the late Merton Ketchum, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and dedication. Together, they raised their children on the family farm, instilling in them the values of hard work and integrity. The farm was not only a home but a testament to Marie and Merton's partnership and perseverance. Marie's role extended beyond nurturing her family; she was an integral part of the farm's daily operations, taking on numerous chores with grace and resilience.

Preceded in death by her husband Merton, her daughter Janet, her brothers Dale and Gale Bennett, and her sister Maxine Holden, Marie's legacy continues through her surviving family. She is lovingly remembered by her sons, Larry (Donalyn) Ketchum and Ron (Pam Hemenway) Ketchum; her daughters, Rose (Michael Semel) Ketchum and Joann (Mark) Peterson. Marie's joy was multiplied through her grandchildren, Ellyn (Jason) Melby, Lauren (Steve) Nettles, Chad (Connie) Ketchum, Valerie (Keith) Button, Krystal Kinney, Herb (Colleen) Kinney, Miranda (Travis) Fisher, and Joshua (Kadeine) Peterson, Anne (Zack Squires) Semel, Beth (Max Duhe) Semel, as well as her many great and great-great-grandchildren. Her sisters, Rosie Hurbis, and Barb Nelson, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, also survive her.

Marie's caring nature led her to a fulfilling career as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Riverview Nursing Home in Owego, NY. Her compassion and skill made a significant difference in the lives of many, providing comfort and care to those in their twilight years. Marie's commitment to her profession was an extension of the love and care she provided to her own family.

Deeply rooted in her faith, Marie was a long-standing and devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Newark Valley. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her through times of joy and sorrow. Marie's unwavering belief was evident in her kindness, generosity, and the way she lived her life each day.

Marie's family will receive friends and relatives at MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley, NY 13811, on Friday July 26, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. A celebration of her life will follow at 12:00 noon, where loved ones will gather to honor her memory and the profound impact she made on their lives. Marie will be laid to rest with her beloved Mert in Glen Hope Cemetery, Jenksville, NY.
