Margaret R. Barton

Margaret R. Barton, passed peacefully in her sleep Wednesday Evening, Oct. 5, 2011. Margaret was born on June 19, 1915 in Newark Valley a daughter of the late Scott J. and Sue (Rightmire) Deyo. She was a graduate of Newark Valley High School and was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene F. Barton. Margaret was a postal clerk in Newark Valley for many years and also was an employee of Fowlers Dept. Store and The Bon Ton. She and Gene enjoyed Square Dancing (Shirts and Skirts), bird watching and traveling. She was proud to say she had visited all 50 states (Alaska two times) and crossed both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Margaret was a member of Cornell Ornithology Association and Mohonk Preserve and also a supporter of Pathfinder Village, The Boy Scouts and Waterman Conservation Center. She is survived by several nephews and cousins. Funeral and committal services were held at 2 PM on Monday, Oct. 10, 2011 at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley. Rev. Charles Horvath officiated. Interment will be in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley.
