Margaret E. Nelson, 94, of Owego, NY, passed from our lives on August 21, 2009 to be reunited with her husband of 62 years, James B. Nelson. Born on May 8, 1915, Betty was a native of the Pittsburgh, McKeesport, PA area. She was one of the few remaining graduates of the Langley High-School class of 1933. Betty is survived by her sons, Robert (Natalie) Nelson, Newark Valley, NY, William (Linda) Nelson, Lewisburg, WV and Kenneth Nelson, Nashville, TN. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kevin Alexander, NY, Steven (Dawn) Alexander, NC, Todd (Barbara) Alexander, CA, Brian Alexander, MO, and Laurel (Pete) Gajate, CA; her six great-grandchildren, Colleen, Christine, Theresa, Caitlin, Adam and Corrine; and three great-great-grandchildren, Madeline, Ian, and Ruby. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Marge Nelson, TX; three nieces, three nephews; her dear, lifelong friend, Gertie Clelland, TX; her special friends, Red and Dory Harrison, Bob and Dorothy Walter, McKeesport, PA and many dear friends both in NY and PA, especially her friends at Valley Park, Owego and Martha Walker and Bill Vandenberg. Betty was an active member of many organizations in the Pittsburgh and McKeesport area. She was especially proud of her work as a volunteer and an employee of the McKeesport Special Children's Center, the Elizabeth Township Historical Society and her many years of dedicated service to the First United Presbyterian Church of Boston in McKeesport, where, until her passing, she was the oldest living member. She served there as music director and on many boards and committees. While living in the Owego area she attended the First United Church of Christ of Newark Valley and was a member of the Dorcas Society. The family wishes to extend a special thank you and appreciation to Dave and Carol Cooley, Carol Lamb and Amy Lord, FNP and the staff at NTFC for their wonderful caring help to Betty.Betty's family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 25, from 12:30 until 2 p.m. at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley. Funeral services will follow there at 2 p.m. with Deacon Waren Rutan officiating.
