Lynn Howard McCutcheon died November 19, 2022, at Guthrie Medical Center, after a short illness. He was born May 15,1931 in Harrison Valley, Pennsylvania to Howard and Louise (Hemmons) McCutcheon, one of 4 children. In 1949 he started working for what is now Berkshire Hathaway Eastern natural gas in the Harrison Station. Lynn worked in the public energy sector for New York State Department of Public Service for 26 years and the private energy sector into the 2010s, a career spanning nearly seven decades. Lynn had a reputation as a consummate professional possessing vast knowledge and dispensing the same with fairness and integrity throughout his long working life. During the 1950s when traveling to New York State for work with BHE, Lynn met and married Sharon Smith. Lynn is survived by his wife of 66 years, his sons Michael (Suzanne) and Drexel, sister Janice Reynolds, 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Lynn was preceded in death by a brother Lloyd, a sister Carol, son David Henderson and granddaughters Danielle and Heidi. Lynn and Sharon in their kindness and generosity mentored many other children during their lives. It was known that anyone was welcome in the McCutcheon home. Lynn and his wife Sharon were members of the First Assembly of God Church on Port Watson Street in Cortland, NY. The pro-life cause was very near to Lynns heart. He made several trips to Washington D.C to participate in the March for Life and was active in the pro-life activities in Ithaca. It was that faith that helped make Lynn the man he was and guide him to the end of his life. Lynn was an avid sports fan and followed hockey, football and baseball, coaching, mentoring and sponsoring at all levels of play for many decades. Lynn was known far and wide in hockey rinks across the northeast USA and Canada. He was also an accomplished fisherman and as many folks will attest catching fish with Lynn was almost 100% guaranteed. He hunted across the USA and was proficient at finding many fine animals over the course of his life. Lynn was a hunting legend among family and friends. "It is a typical opening day, deer season is here and he is gone." A Celebration of His Life will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022 from 1-4 PM. at the Harford Town Hall, State Route 38, Harford MacPherson Funeral Home in Newark Valley, NY is assisting with arrangements.
