Lorraine Shrigley Grant, 89, Newark Valley, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2015. She was born in Woodhaven, NY on May 31, 1926 and lived in Newark Valley, NY from 1935 until 2010 when she and her husband moved to the United Methodist Homes in Johnson City, NY. She is predeceased by her parents Emmett Augustus and Doris Elinor Hagerman Shrigley and her brother Gordon Scott Shrigley.Lorraine is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Laurence Thomas (Bud) Grant, son Thomas (Mary Ellen) Grant, Newark Valley, and daughters Janet (Tim) Everett, Texas, and Marjorie (Richard) Vanderslice, grandchildren Laurence Thomas (L. T.) Grant, Mary Lorraine (Mollie) Grant, Brian (Charlene) Banta, Paul (Jennifer) Banta, Keith (Leslie) Banta, Sarah (PJ) Joshi, Jessie (Jon) Stowe, Matthew (Stephanie) Vanderslice; several great grandchildren and four nieces. She is also survived by dear friends Joan and Ray Shaver and David and Carol Cooley of Newark Valley.Lorraine and Bud were long-time residents of Newark Valley and members of the United Church of Christ in Newark Valley where they were married on March 02, 1947. They worked diligently to oversee the extensive renovation to the Churchs interior in the early 1980s. Lorraine and Bud both graduated from Newark Valley High School in 1943. She was Salutatorian of her Senior Class. In 1993, they were co-recipients of the Outstanding Graduates Award by the Newark Valley High School Alumni Association. After high school, Lorraine attended business school in Rochester and worked at several jobs before being hired by IBM.She was a long-time member of the Valley Quilters Group and her memory lives on in the many quilts which she made and gave with love. She was humbled when she was selected as a National Quilt Judge.For many years, she and Bud traveled the U. S. in a motor home, often including grandchildren in their travels. Her grandchildren still reminisce about the great fun they had with Gramma and Grampa on those trips and boating on Cayuga Lake. Lorraine loved her family deeply and delighted in the lives and successes of her grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the Staff at Hilltop and the James G. Johnston Nursing Home of United Methodist Homes, Johnson City, for the loving care given to Lorraine and her family.A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 05, 2015 at 2PM at Hilltop, United Methodist Homes, Johnson City, NY.
