Lorena Alice Wright

Lorena Alice Wright, 97, of Candor passed away on Feb 25, 2018. She is survived by her daughter Cherylee Cher Wright; grandchildren Christopher Eiklor, Ashley Lorfils, Aaron Wright-Davis, Sean Wright-Davis, Erica Wright-Roseburg; great-grandchildren Christopher, Noah, Madeline, Reagan, Piper, Ava, Aiden, Kamila and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 37 years, Harold B. Wright; parents John Ralph and Izetta Berry; daughter Alice Wright; sisters Jane Marley and Arlene Drought. Lorena was born on April 20, 1920 in New Haven, NY. She graduated from Fulton High School and went on to Oswego State Teachers College, where she graduated in 1946. She was a student teacher at the Altmar Parish. Lorena began teaching at Candor Central School District during the 1946-47 school year, where she taught second, third and fifth grade before retiring in 1982. She returned to substitute teach until 2002, when she turned 83. She was a member of the New York State Teachers Association. Lorena became a member of the Granby Center, New York Methodist church in 1946. She then joined the Candor Methodist Church, where she was a member for 70 years. Lorena was also an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 495 where she served as Matron for a time. She was a fourth generation member in the Dempster Grove Methodist Campground Association and became the first woman to serve as president. Lorena was very dedicated to her work in education, and remained a positive influence in the lives of many young people. She will be greatly missed. A celebration of Lorenas life will be held at the MacPherson Funeral Home in Newark Valley, NY on Tuesday March 6th at 1 oclock.
