LeRoy G. Moorby, 90, died at his home on November 26, 2010. Roy was a longtime resident of Oneonta and for the past eleven years has happily resided in Newark Valley. He is survived by his children, Sharon (Warren) Jones, Cathy (Carl) Schultz, David (Carmen) Moorby, Rev. William A. Moorby. His ten grandchildren: Cynthia, Michael, Jennifer, Carl Adam, Nathan, Nicholas, Aaron, Fawn, James, Simon. Thirteen great grandchildren, several in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years Anne Nan (Clarke) Moorby, his grandson Travis Schultz, brothers Edgar and Alfred Moorby, sisters Doris Clark and Audrey Kusnerak.Born on March 18, 1920 in Riverhead, NY he was the son of Arthur and Almina (Crooker) Moorby. He was a graduate of Oneonta High School (class of 1938) and inductee of the National Honor Society and a member of St. Marys Church where he was active in the choir. As a teenager, Roy was introduced to horseshoes, bowling and baseball~all three sports have been a source of life-long enjoyment to him. Other enjoyments included, fishing, vegetable gardening and cooking. He served in the US Army and his employment career included Linn Coach & Truck Corp, Ford Sales Co, Allstate Insurance Co., and SUNY at Delhi. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at his current parish St. John the Evangelist Church, Newark Valley at 10 am on Wednesday, December 1st, 2010. His son, Rev. William A. Moorby will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Owego where military honors will be accorded. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 4 to 7 pm at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley.
