LaVerta Mae Van Winkle

LaVerta M. Van Winkle, 96, of Vestal, passed away on June 9, 2025. Born on March 20, 1929, LaVerta was the daughter of the late Harry and Helen (Pierce) Swackhammer.

LaVerta's memory will be cherished by her loving children, David (Anita) Van Winkle, Lois Edson, Donald Van Winkle, and Ronald Van Winkle, her brother, Richard Swackhammer, her sister-in-law Kathleen Swackhammer, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles Van Winkle, five sisters, and a brother, who had each held a special place in her heart.

The kitchen was the heart of her home, with her Sunday dinners and Christmas cookies being more than just meals, they were tradition. Her love for trying new recipes was only matched by the love she received from those who gathered around her table. LaVerta enjoyed gardening, tending to all of her flowers, a testament to her nurturing spirit.

LaVerta's love for her family was as deep-rooted as the plants in her garden. Her affection was not reserved for humans alone; she had an equal measure of love for her many feline companions over the years.

The family will gather privately for a service celebrating her life.
